(This is a page in progress) :)

Basic Information Edit

Betsy is LMDE 2, the second distribution in the Linux Mint Debian Edition series. While it "provides the same environment as Linux Mint", it is not based on Ubuntu, as is the standard Mint release. Instead, it is based on Debian Jessie.

Betsy was released on April 10, 2015.[1] She comes with 2 Desktop Environment option, Cinnamon and MATE, and two architectures, 32-bit and 64-bit. [2]

History Edit

Betsy, the second distro in the LMDE series, was preceded by LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition)... {needs more work}

On the Linux Mint blog, the earliest reference to Betsy is on the October 2014 entry. We are told that "On the LMDE side, work is continuing on Betsy. Debian Jessie is getting ever more stable..." There are periodic references to it from then on.

The RC (release candidate) was released on March 18, 2015.

Interestingly, some users of LMDE (old version) found a way to run Betsy even before the RC release [3] . On the Linux Mint forums, user reference2myself says the following (dated November 24, 2014):

Just wanted to spread the word that Cinnamon 2.4 from the betsy repo is working nicely now and it's possible to upgrade to LMDE 2 by changing your sources and doing a dist upgrade. These are what I used.
[He then goes on to describe the process]
A quick read through the rest of the thread shows that while there were some issues, Betsy was a viable operating system by this point.

Betsy was officially released to the general public on April 10 of 2015.
